About the Babiche Curriculum
The Babiche curriculum is only available to educators who are working
within the program. The curriculum is divided into three basic categories:
humanities, technology and communications. The curriculum encourages
students to inquire into what "makes culture."
Students engage with various readings about Native cultures as
well as conduct research and write essays exploring their own culture.
These exercises along with cutting-edge technology training and
speech/communication skills give students a practical, real-world
advantage. The effect of these lessons is to shine a light on the
students own culture which has often been transparent to them. The
richness of their own culture is explored and documented through
various required technology projects.
The program culminates in the Cultural Exchange Journey which highlights
the similarities and connections between Native cultures. These
journeys facilitate students in feeling comfortable speaking in
front of large audiences, gaining pride and expertise in their own
culture, as well as making invaluable connections with people of
other tribes and geographic regions. The journey expands their community
by showing that community can stretch across geographic and cultural
bounds.
